Elvin is a second year PhD Student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at Carnegie Mellon University. His doctoral research investigates the use of demand-side resources to provide power system flexibility in the form of ancillary services. His approach is to leverage advanced models and controls that enable buildings to predictably adjust power consumption in a synergistic operation with the power grid. In particular, he focuses on HVAC system control to provide services such as regulation and load following, as well as other continuous forms of demand response. His underlying objective is to contribute to the demand-side technologies that will grant the necessary flexibility for the sustainable integration of renewable energy in the power system.
